35 Years of Building More Than Homes: The Kerr Design Build Story

ByKristina May 19, 2026May 20, 2026

Celebrating 35 Years of Trust, Craftsmanship, and Home Transformation

For 35 years, Kerr Design Build has helped homeowners across Vancouver and Greater Vancouver bring their ideas to life through thoughtful design, trusted guidance, and quality craftsmanship. What began as one vision has grown into one of the region’s most respected names in custom homes and renovations. This milestone is more than an anniversary. It is a celebration of the people, values, and projects that have shaped our journey.

Where It All Began

Thirty-five years ago, Doug Kerr started Kerr with a simple but powerful belief: there had to be a better way to design and build homes. Working from a small home office in Vancouver, he built the company on strong values, hard work, and a commitment to doing things the right way. That foundation still guides Kerr Design Build today. From the beginning, the goal was never just to complete projects. It was to create a better
experience for homeowners — one built on trust, communication, and lasting quality.

A New Chapter of Leadership

Every great company evolves, and the next chapter of Kerr Design Build is deeply connected to its history. For Elton Donald, Kerr is more than a business. It is where he grew up. As a teenager, Elton spent summers on Kerr job sites — painting walls, cleaning up debris, learning from skilled trades, and understanding what pride in workmanship really means.

Over the years, he gained experience across every level of the company, developing a complete understanding of construction, client care, and leadership.
In 2025, Elton officially stepped into ownership, continuing the legacy Doug began while bringing fresh energy and vision to the future.

His leadership reflects the values Kerr clients know and trust: honesty, service, growth, and
excellence.

More Than a Design-Build Company

At Kerr Design Build, we believe we are not just in the construction business. We are in the people business. Yes, we design. Yes, we build. But most importantly, we guide homeowners through one of the biggest investments of their lives. From the first consultation to the final walkthrough, our mission is to create an experience that feels as rewarding as the finished home itself.
That means:
– Clear communication throughout the project
– Thoughtful planning and realistic budgets
– Creative design tailored to how you live
– Skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail
– A team committed to your success from start to finish
