Kerr Construction Supports the Drug Free Dash

Kerr Construction believes that community is important and is dedicated to building a better lifestyle for all.

Doug Kerr, the company’s founder, skied with the likes of Steve Podborski and Ken Read as a member of the Canadian National Ski Team, affectionately known as the “Crazy Canucks” back in the 1970s and 1980s. Through his involvement with drug education and testing, he is well versed about the harmful effects that the misuse of drugs can have on people’s lives.

Drug situation bad in Vancouver

Vancouver has a long history of drug-related pain and death with drug overdoses taking the lives of over 200 people so far this year alone. On July 27, B.C. Emergency Health Services reported that paramedics responded to some 130 emergency calls related to suspected drug overdoses, a single day record for the city. Fortunately, these heroes saved every life that day.

This trend needs to be reversed.

Helping youth find alternatives

That’s why Kerr Construction sponsors the Drug Free Dash, an annual 10k/5k run or 5k walk to raise money for KidSport Delta and the Boys & Girls Clubs of South Coast BC. These organizations provide organized sports and after-school activities for youth to encourage an active, healthy lifestyle. Proceeds also go to providing drug education materials for youth groups, law enforcement and educators. This ensures that our children are able to make informed decisions when it comes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and we are able to protect our future leaders by empowering them with education and active alternatives.

We are proud that Kerr Construction staff enjoy getting involved. This year’s race was held on a rainy and windy September 9 at the beautiful Centennial Beach. Our Evy Iverson, Office Controller, did the 5K walk in a time of 51:44 with her colleagues cheering her on!
