Designing & Building A Forever Dream Home
Kerr Design Build completed a mind-blowing project to take a client’s home from zero to their perfect forever living space.
Small WWII house
The house was a single-floor, two-bedroom WWII bungalow in Kitsilano that the clients, a couple and their now teenage daughter, had been living in for years. They had two rental suites in the basement, so they had made do with less than 1,000 square feet of living space during that time.
But this condition changed dramatically.
Renovation tripled family space
A few years ago, the couple decided they wanted this property to be their forever home and approached us to make this a reality.
With our design team, they dreamed up their perfect living space – an expanded, two-story, three-bedroom home with a rooftop deck comprising some 3,000 feet of high-end, comfortable living space. This included two master bedroom suites on the second floor, each with a beautiful ensuite bathroom.
High-class features
The house would also feature a stone fireplace in the living room, a vaulted ceiling in the dining room, a brilliant professional kitchen, a beautiful guest bedroom and office, and a full-on movie/family room in the basement with acoustic panelling and a custom sound system.
Elevator from top to bottom
The home was made perfect for ageing-in-place by installing an elevator to service each floor and making each of the four bathrooms barrier-free. Added features included auto blinds, a security system, and an expanded dream garage in the back with its own 3-piece bathroom.
During the renovation process, the old house was entirely levelled so that, at one point, the only thing visible was the outline of the foundation.
Spectacular result
Now completed, the house is spectacular. In front, because of its location on a main street, it has huge retaining walls in coloured concrete, tiered gardens and special lighting.
Only photos do it justice.
