Scaffolding and Wrapping A House To Keep Major Home Renovations Moving Forward in Winter
This past year, Kerr Design Build started a major home renovation in Delta, just north of Point Roberts on Boundary Bay.
The renovation involves raising the roof by two feet to create 10-foot interior ceilings throughout the house, as well as a nearly total gutting of the interior. This allows for the creation of three completely renovated bathrooms plus a new, larger kitchen. When complete, there will be a new 700 sq ft roof deck, allowing the homeowners to appreciate the magnificence of their location on Boundary Bay.
To facilitate the renovations during the winter months, Kerr set up scaffolding and wrapped the home in plastic sheeting to allow work to continue unhindered by the elements. This was vital to keep interior finishes like flooring intact from rain damage while removing the roof.
The scaffolding went up on January 1 and it took a week to complete the assembly and wrap. This exterior structure was in place for two months.
Besides keeping crews out of the rain, it allowed work to be easily done on exterior walls for siding as well as heating and plumbing penetrations. It also kept the new flat roof dry so that the torch-on roofing membrane could be installed properly.
Such care shows that Kerr Design Build will go to great lengths to ensure a project gets done right and on time.
The project will be completed by late September this year.
